Any preparatory work needed on the instruments we offer for sale, ranging from basic repairs to complex restorations, is done in our shop. Expert bow restorations and rehairing are also done at the shop. Players who have purchased instruments from us know they can count on our shop for future tonal adjustments or repairs.
In many cases we can accommodate clients, by appointment, in completing minor work on an instrument or bow within a few hours while they visit the Art Institute, Millennium Park, or other nearby Loop destinations. Adjustments—which can greatly improve the sound and playability of an instrument—are done with the player present. Please contact us for more information or to make an appointment.
Repairs done in our shop include, but are not limited to:
- Cutting and fitting bridges
- Fitting posts
- Fingerboard dressing and replacement
- Peg fitting and replacement
- Crack repairs
- Varnish repairs
- Neck sets
- Fitting bass bars
- Tonal and ergonomic adjustments
We also do bow rehairs and bow repair and restoration, including non-ivory headplates, bushings, and chevals.
